The first farm complexes were built over 800 years ago,
The opencast mining will reach the buildings around 2035
In 2016, the planned mining area of Garzweiler II was reduced due to a policy decision by the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia. This reduction saved the Holzweiler village. But not three farms belonging to Holzweiler: The Roitzerhof, which Weyerhof and the Eggerather Hof. According to current planning, these courtyards will be the last buildings to fall victim to opencast mining.

Twelve villages will be demolished for opencast mining
Five villages have already been completely destroyed, one has almost nothing left and six others are currently being relocated. Two to three individual farms, the final mining limit is not yet entirely certain, will be relocated towards the end of the opencast mining.
