Immerath

The village Immerath is through the
The town's striking church became known.

In Immerath, the resettlement began at the end of 2016 and is now almost complete. Very few houses are still standing and even fewer are inhabitednt.

Immerath was once characterized by the imposing “Immerather Dom”, the parish church St. Lambertus.

Another landmark was the Immerather mill, which was demolished along with the church in 2018.

Both buildings are presented in more detail on separate pages: mill & Church.

The new Immerath

From the beginning of 2006, Immerath was (newly) developed and the infrastructure was built. The first building plots have been available since mid-2006 and most of Immerath (together with Pesch and Lützerath) has been relocated since 2015. 700 people took part in the joint resettlement.

Twelve villages will be demolished for opencast mining

Five villages have already been completely destroyed, one has almost nothing left and six others are currently being relocated. Two to three individual farms, the final mining limit is not yet entirely certain, will be relocated towards the end of the opencast mining.
